Only one realistic UFC rematch possibility

With four straight wins, Jasmine Jasudavicius has put herself firmly into a small circle of UFC contenders at flyweight.

The 36-year-old Canadian is coming off what might be her biggest win yet, and even though contenders Manon Fiorot and Erin Blanchfield are presumably the next two in line for champion Valentina Shevchenko, stranger things have happened than someone like Jasudavicius getting a title shot based on timing, to go along with a worthy resume.

Jasudavicius (13-3 MMA, 7-2 UFC) took a unanimous decision from Mayra Bueno Silva (10-5-1 MMA, 5-5-1 UFC) at UFC Fight Night 250 in Saudi Arabia earlier this month. Only a year ago, Silva fought Raquel Pennington for the then-vacant bantamweight belt, so Jasudavicius adding her to her win column was big.

Jasudavicius seems to know it might not have been title-shot-next big, though. And if it’s the case that she has to get a couple more fights in before she challenges for the belt, naturally, she’ll take whoever the UFC says is next.

But she’s got two UFC losses, as well, to Natalia Silva and Tracy Cortez. And while she’d love to get even with each of them, the loss to Silva particularly stings.

“I would say move on to the next task, but I want that Natalia Silva fight back,” Jasudavicius told MMA Junkie Radio. “The Cortez fight, yeah – I would love that fight back, obviously. I don’t think she’s ever going to fight me, so I don’t really care about that one, in all honesty.

“But the Natalia Silva fight, it is the first girl that I actually feel like beat me. (After the fight), I was like, ‘Nah, she won the fight.’ So I want that one back, for sure.”

Silva (18-5-1 MMA, 6-0 UFC) made her promotional debut against Jasudavicius at UFC on ESPN 37 in June 2022 in Texas and won a unanimous decision. Since then, she has five more UFC wins, including a pair of bonuses. This past September, she won Fight of the Night for a decision win over former strawweight champ Jessica Andrade.

Jasudavicius apparently could see a scenario in which Silva makes her weight to the title. At the very least, it plays a part in a typical athlete daydream.

“My dream would be, obviously, (Silva) has the title – and then I take the title from her,” Jasudavicius said.

Jasudavicius said she sees potential for a spot on the promotion’s return to her home country for UFC 315 in Montreal on May 10. That will be the UFC’s first time there in 10 years.

Jasudavicius is 4-0 in her career in fights in Canada – including 3-0 in the UFC with bonus-winning submissions of Priscila Cachoeira and Ariane da Silva.
